Why the GP isn't important until finals

I know that such title would elicit responses like: 'what the hell is she talking about? it's important throughout school' and all that but it is true in most cases. Most of us don't even calculate our GP( Grade Point) until third year. We just register our courses, write exams and check results. If we don't see an F, we're good to go. It shouldn't be like that. We ought to calculate it to know where we stand and make improvements where neccessary not when we get to third year or finals, we begin calculating and trying to make outstanding improvements.
Let me give a run down of what happens:
  • In our first year, we're like there's a lot of time, let me get to know people and make friends
  • Second year, we're like OK I made some mistakes last year, I would rectify them this year but then, we attend parties and functions we couldn't attend in the first year
  • Third year, time to go for the Industrial Training and the screening begins and that's when some of us begin to calculate our GPs
  • Final lap, we try to read and cram like never before and in the process, we crash and burn.
The GP is very very important even before you gain admission into the higher institution because when you make those little sacrifices from the beginning, you won't have a problem at finals. It would be smooth sailing all the way.
